Meet Lillis, your dedicated transition manager. Lillis will work exclusively with you as a new client throughout the onboarding process to ensure a seamless transition and a positive first experience. Here are Lillis' answers to questions you may have about becoming a Balentine client.
Our Transition Manager, Lillis, is focused solely on making the transition of your assets to Balentine as smooth as possible. You can rest assured that we will diligently track movement of all your assets very closely, and we’ll keep you posted along the way. Once we’ve received and processed all new account documents, we’ll submit the transfer documents. The transfer process is largely dependent on the transferring institution. If the transferring institution is on the automated customer account transfer service (ACATS) system (which standardizes the transfer of assets from one brokerage firm and/or bank to another), the transfer of assets typically takes 4-6 business days. If the transferring institution is not on the ACAT system (non-ACAT), the transfer of assets can take weeks. Our onboarding team will provide you updates throughout the transfer process.
It can be a lot, we agree. As a firm registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the personal information you provide up front helps us better understand your investment goals – and ensures our adherence to the SEC’s regulatory and “know your customer” requirements, which exist to protect you as the investor.
A custodian is a financial institution that holds and safeguards clients' financial assets from loss or theft. We remain resolute in our conviction that advisors should custody assets separately from the advisory business for the clients' protection and best interests. We've partnered with BNY Mellon’s Pershing as the custodian for our clients. You will receive periodic communication from Pershing and for your protection, Pershing will notify you anytime an account is open or a change is made within your account.
This depends entirely on the plan set forward by you and your primary advisor. However, you may see more than one account opened per entity. This has to do with how assets transfer in and our approach to managing cash. The first letter signals the internal purpose of an account:
- J: primary accounts, and where assets initially transfer during onboarding. Longer term, the J account will house any cash for spending and may act as a checking account or margin lending account.
- N: house assets managed by Balentine or a trusted third party.
- Q: hold client-directed assets which Balentine will not trade without explicit direction from the client.
Lillis, your dedicated transition manager, will diligently monitor your asset transfers and will let you know as soon as she sees anything arriving, or if there is a holdup which will require your help. If a week passes with no transfer activity, she will reach out to you to confirm there’s been no activity. Once assets arrive at Balentine, there is an overnight data feed before they will be visible to you. Please know there may be a short time period where your assets will not be visible at your outside account or at Balentine - this is expected and normal.
Once you open a Balentine account, your client service team will provide step-by-step instructions on how to access your account(s) online.
There are three primary systems: Pershing Portal, Addepar, and eMoney:
- Pershing Portal: Pershing is our custodian, and this is their online system where you can view your accounts and find monthly statements and tax documents. Click here for a demo of the system.
- Addepar: Addepar is our performance and consolidated reporting system (including investments held outside of Balentine). I think you will find this system extremely user-friendly and easy to navigate. Click here for a demo of the system.
- eMoney: This platform gives you the ability to link outside accounts (i.e. personal savings, checking, credit cards), it serves as a repository for estate planning documents, and facilitates financial planning with Balentine.
Lillis, your transition manager, is the best first point of contact for your account questions. She will likely be able to answer your question or can follow up with an answer to your question. However, anyone at Balentine will gladly assist you with your inquiries. Once your accounts are opened and assets transferred, Lillis will introduce you to your permanent service team.
